Did you know that existing data centres (storing your and my data) consume about 2.5% of the UK's electricity?
This is even more scary when you consider how many more are being planned!
In addition to the environmental issues, digital data ‘clutter’ is having a mental impact on many of us too.
Our digital lives are meant to make things easier, but sometimes they seem to create just as much clutter as our physical world. Overloaded inboxes, scattered documents, forgotten subscriptions and devices full of files can all take up valuable time and headspace.
Does any of this sound familiar?
Perhaps your emails and messages are difficult to keep on top of, your documents are stored in several different places, or your calendar no longer feels helpful. You may have online accounts you rarely use, old devices that need attention, or information you know you have saved somewhere, but cannot find when you need it.
Digital disorganisation can lead to decision fatigue, stress and a surprising amount of time-wasting. It can also mean missed opportunities or unnecessary costs. For example, paying for storage you do not need, continuing subscriptions you have forgotten about, or losing track of important information
What could feel different?
With a simpler, more sustainable system, you can find things more quickly, waste less time and feel more in control. It becomes easier to prioritise what matters, your devices can work more efficiently, and the mental load of wondering where everything is begins to ease.
Organising your digital world may also save money, reduce unnecessary data storage and help lower your digital footprint. Most importantly, it can bring peace of mind: your information is easier to manage, easier to protect and there when you need it.
Patient, practical support
Following my APDO training, I’m delighted to introduce my new digital organising service. I can help you declutter and organise your files, emails, calendar, data and everyday digital tools – in a simple way and without judgement or pressure.
Furthermore, I have worked with computer software for more than 35 years, beginning as a word processor operator in the 1980s. Since then, I have studied IT at degree level, taught GCSE ICT, organised individual and shared filing systems, and supported and trained colleagues with new systems.
One of my defining qualities is patience, so we can work at a pace that suits you. This is a collaborative service: I will work alongside you, helping you make decisions and create systems that feel manageable and realistic for everyday life.
How will this work?
Together, we can organise sustainable digital filing systems, emails, contacts and calendars. We can declutter and streamline your devices; reduce unnecessary data use and make the tools you rely on work better for you.
I am comfortable working across a wide range of platforms and software, including iOS and Apple devices, Windows, Microsoft Office, OneDrive, Google Drive and Dropbox, as well as many other apps.
We can start with the area that is causing you the most frustration and take it one step at a time.
Planning for the things that matter
I can also support you in creating a digital legacy archive: a secure, organised collection of important online information and sentimental documents. It can help you (or a loved one) access vital information when it is needed, so preserving your instructions, photographs and life story.
